Abstract
This paper presents a method of measurement of the angular position of a traveling wave type ultrasonic motor (TWUM). This method uses the mechanical vibrations on the rotor to estimate its position. The working principle and the mathematical modeling of this kind of motors are reviewed and the position measurement system is described. Then the results of basic experiments are discussed. The obtained position and the measured one proved to be in good agreement.
