Abstract
The electron temperature in a Li2CO3 ablative capillary discharge has been estimated on the base of soft x-ray spectral line intensity measurements and of evaluations of steady-state ionization and population fractions for the mixture of lithium, carbon and oxygen. The discrepancy in the peak temperatures, estimated from spectral measurements and calculated by one-dimensional MHD and time dependent collisional-radiative codes, is explained by an initial overheating of the plasma electrons.
