Engineering Application of Fe-Based Shape Memory Alloy on Connecting Pipe Line

Fe-based shape memory alloy ( SMA ) pipe couplings have been developed and successfully used in oilfields and chemical engineering departments. Using the pipe coupling connecting pipe line will avoid the serious corrosion near the welding zone, which usually occur due to the use of the traditional welding technique. The Fe-based SMA material used in our study shows a good comprehensive mechnical and shape recovery properties. Special structure of pipe coupling has been designed in order to meet the needs of high pressure pipe line with high reliability for the engineering application on a large scale. The products of Fe-based SMA pipe couplings have been produced and used in connecting the pipe line near 40 MPa pressure in several oilfields and chemical engineering plants in China.
