Resistive filamentation of laser-driven fast electron beams

Simulations of fast electron transport in imploded targets are presented. We found that beam filamentation in low density zones can prevent 1-2 MeV electron propagation towards the high density core. To mitigate this effect, we have considered electrons with mean kinetic energies of 4-5 MeV. The large stopping length of these electrons is partially balanced by collective stopping, resulting in a good coupling of the beam with the imploded target.
