Abstract
Higher order Mode-I elastodynamic fields at the tip of a crack are calculated by the perturbation method. We use a certain condition at the crack tip as one of the boundary conditions and resolve the difficulty encountered otherwise [1]. We find that the well-known hoop stress maximum at the crack velocity, 60 % of the transverse sound speed, disappears when the crack is accelerated.
