Abstract
A new experimental torsion test is developed to achieve intermediate strain rates. The gauge length of the classical torsion bar (27 mm) is reduced within the range 0 to 5 mm. Analytical predictions with simple constitutive equation show that strain rates achieve the magnitude of 250 s - 1. A finite difference analysis is proposed to simulate the test with more evolved constitutive equations. A comparison between experimental and numerical results shows a good agreement.
