Abstract
Strains induced by magnetic fields applied at room temperature were measured for three single crystalline Ni-Mn-Ga alloys
with similar magnetic properties and martensitic transformation characteristics-one containing 5-layered tetragonal martensite
(alloy A), the others containing 7-layered monoclinic martensite (alloys B, C). Strains of 1.8% have been achieved in alloy
A while alloys B and C showed only strains comparable to the true magnetostriction.
