Abstract
The dynamic Brazilian test has been previously developed for the study of dynamic failure properties of brittie materiais such as ceramic or concrete. We have applied this test to a cast PBX that is a high filled polymer containing 88% of crystalline charges and HTBP as binder. The Split Hopkinson Pressure Bars system for performing the Brazilian test consists of large diameter polymeric bars. The instrumentation of the test with a high speed numeric video camera shows that the studied material is still ductile at this high rate of loading. After a large deformation of the sample, we observe an initial failure at the centre and propagation of failure by shearing.

In this paper, the dynamic Brazilian test is analysed with LSDYNA3D numerical simulations using the non-liner viscoelastic CMEX developed by SME. We compared the experimental output forces with numerical results obtained with different models: elastic, linear viscoelastic and the CMEX non-liner viscoelastic model. The CIVOEX results compared fairly with experimental results.
