Numerical study on the formation of spray cloud by explosive dispersal of water filled in V-shaped trough

Abstract
Numerical study on formation of spray cloud by explosive dispersal of water filled in V-shaped trough was carried out. In order to simulate the process of the explosive dispersal and to predict the characteristics of the formed water spray cloud, a 2-dimensional fluid-mixing model was established. The calculated trajectory of upward-moving spray front is in good agreement with experimental results. By means of the numerical simulation, the following parameters can be predicted: the shape and size of the spray cloud, the speed vector, liquid phase concentration and pressure distributions inside the cloud. This will be helpful for one to design and select such explosion suppression system and to study the suppression mechanism.
