Abstract
We present here the state of the art of Storage Ring Free Electron Lasers under operation in Europe. Free electrons Lasers
(FELs) are coherent, high power and tuneable radiation sources, obtained by the interaction of an optical wave with a bunch
of ultrarelavistic electrons wiggling in a periodical permanent magnetic structure. The developments and the results obtained
recently in the UV domain by the FELs operating in Europe on Synchrotron Facilities, Super ACO and ELETTRA, offer new opportunities
for using these sources in several scientific domains, and foresee uniques performances for the proposed FEL on the third
generation french Synchrotron SOLEIL.
