Effects of Thermomechanical Treatment on Structure and Shape Recovery of a TiNiCo Alloy

The structural changes and transformation behaviour of a Ti50.0at.%-Ni48.7at.%-Col.3at.% alloy versus thermomechanical treatment have been studied using X-ray phase analysis, electron microscopy and the DTA measurements. Also the shape recovery effect has been measured as a function of the annealing temperature. The alloy was used as a material for clamps joining broken jaw bones in the Clinic of Maxillofacial Surgery of the Silesian Academy of Medicine in Katowice.
