Abstract
Despite the complexity of the secular equation for elastic cylindrical targets, an unexpected simple dependance of the resonance frequencies of the target on its acoustical bulk velocities has been shown recently by numerical investigation. The resonance frequencies lie in two classes, each of them governed in the same way by either the longitudinal or the shear velocities. We present here a direct application of this model : the characterization of the target by its bulk sound velocities, predicted within a 5% error.
