Abstract
The study deals with the damage of road materials treated with hydraulic binder. The experimental method consists in applying to each test cylinder a small number load-unloading cycles in tension with increasing amplitude. The evolution of the behavior is analyzed using the events of acoustic emission sent by the damaged aera. The main mechanism appears as decohesion between the coarse grains and the matrix. There relatively low number and their random spatial distribution, known thanks to the longitudinal location of emission sources, allows to modelise the damaged material to a spherical heterogeneous material made-up with an envelope representing the sound material and an empty core representing the detached grain. The macroscopic failure starts from a coalescence on one of the resulting gaps.
