Abstract
In the present work, we are interested in the three-dimensional description of the behaviour of a high strength material susceptible
to adiabatic shear banding. The high strain rate constitutive model, based on irreversible thermodynamics, bas been formulated
in order to be applied in the context of high velocity impact and penetration mechanics, and bas been implemented as `user
material' in the finite element code LS-DYNA. Some preliminary numerical results are shown in the case of the loading of a
plate hat specimen between Hopkinson pressure bars.
