Abstract
The ABAQUS finite element code has been used to successfully model the Piobert-Lüders (PL) and the Portevin-Le Châtelier (PLC) phenomena under tensile conditions. The local constitutive behaviours developed for the modelling, though simple in their mathematical form, catch the essential physics phenomena underlying the two effects ; namely the dislocation locking by the interstitial atoms and their unlocking under subsequent stress.
