Abstract
Mechanical properties of bulk ZnO single crystals are studied depending on crystallographic orientation, temperature and radiation. The shapes of the indenter prints and dislocation rosettes were analyzed for the faces of monohedron (0001), hexagonal prisms {10 $\overline{1}$0}, {11 $\overline{2}$0}, and pyramid {10 $\overline{1}$1}. For {$\bar{1}$0 $\overline{1}$0} plane, the fracture toughness coefficient K$_{1\rm C}$ was found to be K $_{1\rm C}{\sim}$0.09 MPa m1/2, Young modulus E = 47.7 GPa, microhardness H = 1.7 GPa, coefficient of surface energy of destruction $\gamma $ = 0.085 J/m2. For (0001) face H = 4.2 GPa.
