Maximum experimental safe gap of binary and ternary mixtures

Abstract
Maximun Experimental Safe Gaps (MESG) are the basis for construction and use of flame
proof equipment. MESG of many pure substances are experimentally determined. On the basis of
about 150 experimentally determined MESGs of binary and ternary mixturtes a estimation methode for
MESG of mxtures is developped. This estimation methode is based on the oxygen amount which is
needed by the single components of the mixters to undergo stoechimetric oxidation reaction. The
MESGs estimated by this methode correspond to the measured ones within the uncertainty of
measurement given in IEC 79-1A.
