Abstract
An XC18 steel material in bcc structure was deformed in double shear with a Hopkinson bar at
a projectile speed of 97 m/s. With the help of micrographs, the local shear strain distributions have been
examined. The EBSP technique was used to measure the orientation of the grains from which the
orientation distribution function (ODF) was constructed. The crystallographic textures are presented in
form of ODF-sections. The measured textures were compared to the dynamic recrystallisation (DRX)
textures observed in low carbon steels for shear deformation [1]. In this way, it was possible to conclude
that DRX took place in the shear bands of this material. The texture variations, which accompany the
DRX process, have been successfully modelled with the help of a self-consistent viscoplastic polycrystal model which was modified for the DRX process [2].
