Abstract
This paper deals with an experimental device combined with a computational procedure in order to determine the rise in temperature obtained during compressive Hopkinson tests. These tests consist of a dynamic compression of a sample between two bars. Since the useful diameter of the specimen is smaller than the diameter of the bars, we obtain a dynamic viscoplatic compression combined with a rise in temperature within the sample. This phenomenon is measured by means of an infrared camera. This work presents the difficulties which have been met during the experiments and the chosen solutions in order to capture the rise in temperature just after loading. Then, the tests are simulated using the ABAQUS finite element code and the numerical results are compared with experimental data.
