Abstract
Elemental powders of aluminium and quartz were undergone the loading by spherical converging stress waves. The layer-by-layer analysis of the structure and phase composition of the recovered compact was performed using X-ray diffraction, optical and scanning electron microscopy. The occurrence of several concentric zones containing the products of different chemical reactions along with the initial components was revealed. Pure Si, Al2O3 compound, and Al-Si alloy are the basic products of the chemical reactions.
