Abstract
The anomalous failure of brittle materials in the form of failure wave is studied theoretically. The nature of this phenomenon is linked with the excitation in the shocked material the "peak-regime" dissipative structures of the microshifts localisation. The following key problems of the failure wave effect are investigated : . the nucleation and propagation of failure wave ; . the dependence of the wave velocity on the condition of loading ; . the reasons of failure wave front instability.
