Abstract
This paper shows with the help of numerical simulations that one may be able to achieve physical conditions necessary for hydrogen metallization by imploding appropriately designed multilayered targets that are irradiated by intense beams of energetic heavy ions. In these calculations we consider the beam parameters that will be available at the GSI accelerator facility by the end of the year 2001 when the upgrade of the present facility will be completed.
