A model for the prediction of performance of stress induced domain refinement techniques

Abstract
The paper explains a simple model to describe the improvement in loss of grain oriented electrical steel, obtained using a ball unit domain refinement technique. It is proposed that a model of similar form may be applied to other methods of stress induced domain refinement in an attempt to predict performance. Stress induced domain refinement creates regions of varying magnitudes of tensile and compressive stress which causes an increase in supplementary domains and refinement of the main bar domains. There is an optimum stress which gives the largest reduction in losses and a model formulated from basic magnetic tests is proposed to predict this.
