The Beamline ID24 at ESRF for Energy Dispersive X-Ray Absorption Spectroscopy

Abstract
The beamline ID24 is the ESRF XAS beamline for parallel detection of the whole spectral range. An optical
concept has been selected which takes into account the specific properties of a third generation machine. The radiation is
generated by an undulator. A coupling section contains two X-ray focusing mirrors in a modified Kirkpatrick-Baez
geometry, with the second mirror strongly magnifying the horizontal divergence of the undulator beam. The spectrometer
consists of a curved silicon crystal and a CCD camera lens-coupled to a scintillation screen. Users operation started in
January 1996, taking advantage of a focal spot size of 25 μm and a time resolution up to 0.1 ms.
