Abstract
Organocuprate reagents prepared from cuprous cyanide (CuCN) and trimethyl aluminum (Me3Al) have been studied by XAFS. Two distinct copper(I) species are seen as the ratio of Me3Al/CuCN varies from one to ten. The copper appears to be three coordinate, with cyanide as one of the ligands, in both complexes. The Me3Al cyanoorganocuprates appear to have dramatically different structures from the cuprates prepared from organolithium (RLi) or Grignard (RMgX) reagents.
