Probing the Carbon-Nitrogen Bonding in Heterocyclic Compounds with the N K-Shell Excitation Spectroscopy

Abstract
The N K-shell excitation spectroscopy is applied for the investigation of σ bonding in heterocyclic compounds. It is shown that the σ* excitations are strongly localized in compounds with single (N-C) bonds and are delocalized in compounds containing double (C=N) bonds.
