Characteristics of Martensite Stabilization in a High Temperature Cu-Zn-Al Alloy
Dept. Fίsica, Universitat de les Illes Balears, Edifici Mateu Orfila, Campus Universitari, 07071 Palma de Mallorca, Spain
The reverse transformation of Cu-Zn-Al martensite stabilized either by quench or by ageing in martensitic condition has been studied by means of DSC and DMA. From the last technique the internal friction and modulus behaviour during the transformation, and the stress amplitude dependence of the internal friction in martensite have been analyzed. The comparison of results obtained for quenching and ageing stabilization, particularly the absence of modulus minimum during the reverse transformation of quenching stabilized martensite, points out to pinning in addition to chemical mechanisms, as responsible for stabilization after quench.
