Abstract
A thermal wave theoretical and experimental study is performed on fabricated subsurface cylinders (air holes and stainless steel inclusions) immersed in opaque samples (A1 alloy and epoxy respectively). These structures simulate buried defects and fiber reinforced composites with metallic and polymeric matrices. They are used to analyze the potentiality of photothermal methods to make a quantitative characterization of these materials.
