Abstract
The optical properties of Nd3+ ions have been investigated in fluorophosphate glasses of composition Al(PO3)3-BaF2-CaF2-MgF2-AIF3 with different fluorine t o oxygen ratios by using steady-state and time-resolved laser spectroscopy. Judd-Ofelt parameters werederived from the absorption spectra and used t o calculate the 4F3/2→4I11/2, stimulated emission cross section and the 4F3/2 radiative lifetime. The effective linewidth of the 4F3/2→4I11/2 fluorescence spectra narrows as the fluorine t o oxygen ratio increases. The experimental lifetimes, ranging from 472 t o 494 µs, show a linear dependence with the fluorine content.
