Abstract
We study the formation of Fano resonances in excitonic states in quantum wells. The quasi-2D excitons are modeled by an effective 2D Coulomb interaction. In this approach, uncoupled excitons originate from different pairs of subbands. The 3D character of the Coulomb attraction couples the excitons having the same in-plane symmetry. A typical Fano resonance is formed in the absorption spectra and is characterized by a broadening of the bound exciton peak and a dip in the continuum background.
