The objective of this study was to determine the influence of single and multiple impacts of CO2 laser on dentine in recently extracted human teeth. It has been shown that laser irradiation of dentine may produce deep craters, the dimensions of which are determined by the power and duration of the laser beam. The formation of the craters is accompanied by the development of microfissures in the dentine and heat-affected zones in which compositional and phase changes are observed. Other structural changes in the dentine, such as enhancement of hardness and blocking of the tubules in the irradiated zone, have been detected.
