Abstract
The compaction process which tsansforms an explosive powder into a quasi-compact material is studied to determine the resulting microscopic field of void volume fraction. We have performed quasi-static isostatic compaction with a pressing tool developed especially for this application. The behavior is simulated with a hollow sphere mode1 using an elastic viscoplastic power law for the solid fraction. The resulting constitutive law has been implemented in the finite element code ABAQUS which is used to simulate the forming process.
