Based on the phenomenon of localized heating in the vicinity of microcracks under ultrasonic exciting, a novel nondestructive testing technique, ultrasonic infrared imaging technique, has been established. However, the effective theoretical mode, which is capable of quantitatively calculating the localized heating, so far has not been established. In this paper, based on the three-dimensional transient elastodynamic equation, according to the contact-impact theory, a simulation of the ultrasonic wave propagation in a plate with a microcrack is accomplished by using finite element method. Besides, the frictional heating taking place at the crack surfaces during the wave propagation is also quantitatively calculated.
