Abstract
Simulating microstructure evolution requires an understanding of the validity of various dynamical schemes. We show how underdamped
and overdamped equations can be obtained for ferroelastic transitions and, in particular, demonstrate that the widely used
time dependent Ginzburg-Landau (TDGL) equations correspond to an appropriate limit of the dynamics.
