Abstract
The hardening of regulatory requirements for industrial risks and the development of
affordable high-powered computer has lead to the increasing use of CFD (Computational Fluid
Dynamics) code for explosion calculations. This type of tool has even become a necessity for platform
studies where gas cloud explosion consequences have to be estimated as much for the safety study as
for the structure study. A good use of CFD codes requires knowledge of the explosion phenomenon
and its governing parameters. The two most intuitive parameters are confinement and turbulence, they
are addressed in this study. This paper describes the results of using different levels of confinement
and turbulence.
