Abstract
The compressive deformation of aged and un-aged β-Titanium alloy (Ti-15V-3Cr-3Sn-3Al) was investigated at temperatures between 77K and 673K, at strain rate up to 104 s-1. Temperature and/or strain rate change tests revealed the stress-stran relations were almost indepedent of loading history, and consequently mechanical behaviours could be understood without considering significant change of structure evolution. Temperature rise due to the heat conversion of plastic work for both materials caused a significant work softening on the dynamic stress-strain relations at low temperatures. Thermally activated strain rate analysis (TASRA) was applied to characterize deformation mechanism by taking account of adiabatic heating and strain rate change during deformation, and the experimental results were well convinced.
