Abstract
One of the main purposes in Materials Science remains the control of the microstructure because it influences a great number of properties : mechanical, magnetic, ... From the casting step, this microstructure transforms during the different thermal and thermomechanical treatments. The driving force involved in primary recrystallisation is at the first order the dislocation density whereas the area reduction of grain boundaries, the grain size distribution, the spatial distribution of boundaries, the crystallographic texture, the chemistry of the material control grain growth. In the first step, analytical models of growth will be recalled, then in a second step the recent progress on primary recrystallisation and growth simulation using Monte Carlo method will be described.
