Measurements at the L2/3-edges of Rare-Earth (RE) metallic systems show a smooth low-frequent background on which the magnetic EXAFS are superimposed. While this background is rather strong at the L2/3-edges it is vanishing at the L1-edge. It is also not observed at the K-edge of Transition Metals and only very weak in RE oxides. It is shown that the oscillating contribution to the magnetic EXAFS does only depend on the spin-polarization of the neighboring atoms. But the ratio of this low-frequent background at the L2- and L3-edges reflect the existence of an orbital momentum similar as it is found in the corresponding near-edge X-MCD.
