Raman imaging of grain growth mechanism in highly textured Pb(Mg $_{\bf 1$Nb $_{\bf 2$)O$_{\bf 3}$-PbTiO$_{\bf 3}$ piezoelectric ceramics*

Abstract
Pb(Mg1 / 3Nb2 / 3)O3-PbTiO3 solid solution ((1-x)PMN-xPT) tape cast ceramics have been prepared by homo-epitaxial templated grain growth (HTGG) using cubic 0.75PMN-0.25 PT single crystal seeds as template (a few wt%) and x = 0.35 nanoparticles for the ceramic matrix. Raman imaging studied representative medium and highly textured ceramics. On the base of a previous study which has shown that the Raman peak centre of gravity depends on the solid solution composition whereas peak intensity is correlated to the unit-cell distortion, Raman imaging shows that the final composition and structure is very close to that of the matrix.
